Fisherman Bitten By Nurse Shark In Fla. Keys
SUMMERLAND KEY (CBSMiami) – A fisherman in the Florida Keys got quite a scare after catching a nurse shark which bit him in the calf, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
Spokeswoman Becky Herrin said the 23-year-old man caught the shark off a dock on Summerland Key, about 20 miles from Key West.
When he went into the water to free it from his line, the shark bit his leg.
The bite was superficial and was not a serious injury. He is being treated at Lower Keys Hospital.
Nurse sharks are inshore bottom-dwelling sharks that are common in the Keys. They normally are not perceived as threats to humans.
