First Mini Department Store In U.S. Opens At MIA
MIAMI (CBS4) - The halls of Concourse D at Miami International Airport now resemble a modern shopping mall with the opening of The Shoppes At Ocean Drive, the country's first mini department store inside an airport.
Named after the iconic magazine "Ocean Drive," the 10,000 square foot store features eight concepts which sell anything from sunglasses to gourmet food.
"It's as if we took pages from the magazine and really tried to bring to life in all the design aspects," said Raymond Kayal , CEO of NEWSLINK, a partner of Ocean Drive. "With respect to the merchandise you see here is reflective of what you'll see on Ocean Drive in the better boutiques."
"You see all the Ocean Drive branding reminding passengers and locals when they are passing through the airport what they are taking home with them: the sex and sizzle of Miami," said Lana Bernstein of Ocean Drive.
The Shoppes at Ocean Drive are duty paid, meaning anyone with a ticket can shop here.
"For example, if you're traveling in the summer and you're going to somebody's house and staying with them, you can get a wonderful house warming gift here. You don't have to worry about going to the store and scrambling. You can bring tea, gifts for kids… anything" Bernstein said.
The Shoppes at Ocean Drive is open seven days a week.
