First Jail, Now A Bill For Threatening Broward Schools
PEMBROKE PINES (CBS4) - Ellisa Martinez turned the Broward school system upside down last year when she made some threats against schools. She claimed it was a prank, but school officials treated the threats as real, locking down schools and mounting a massive investigation, Now, Police want Martinez to pay.
In one fashion, she's already paying. She was sentenced to two years in prison after she admitted making the phone and e-mail threats, and then claiming anonymously her husband was responsible. Even though she fled the state, police were able to track her down, and the case quickly unraveled.
Now, the Pembroke Pines police department claims it spent a lot of money dealing with the fake threats, and it wants Martinez to pay up. They are asking for $75 hundred to cover the cost of overtime and other expenses in the case.
It's not known how they would collect, since she's serving prison time, but that would likely be worked out with the help of a judge, who must approve the request.
