MIAMI - Two homes were destroyed and several others were damaged by an intense fire early Thursday morning at a mobile home park in northwest Miami-Dade.

Chopper4 over the J Bar J Trailer Ranch Mobile Home Park, on NW 79 Street at NW 27 Avenue, spotted two homes fully engulfed in flames with thick black smoke billowing into the sky. The smoke could been for miles.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said 13 fire crews were sent to battle the flames.

"Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews arrived to a fully involved trailer that was on fire. On arrival we encountered strong winds that contributed to the spread of the fire and the power lines were actually caught as well which posed an extra level of concern for us," said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue division chief Michael Eng.

Firefighters began a defensive attack to knock the fire down. They also worked to keep the flames from spreading to nearby homes. There are nearly 100 mobile homes in the park.

"The rapidly spread to multiple units and we were able to go in and start attacking the fire. The big concern for us was the number of uhh, based on the number of units involved, was just how many units we had to conduct search and rescue efforts for to make sure everybody was out," said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue division chief Michael Eng.

People who live in the park kept their distance as they watched the fire being knocked down.

The body of the fire was put out in less than an hour, firefighters then focused on hot spots.

No Injuries have been reported.

When asked how many units were damaged by the fire, Eng said they were working on that.

"It's difficult to tell right now because of the damage but it's possible at least up to four units. On arrival, two of them were fully involved," he said.

Eng said what sparked the fire is under investigation.

Within the last year, there was another fire in the area, but that one was deadly.

A woman was killed and a man was critically injured after a mobile home went up in flames near NW 27 Avenue and NW 76 Street.
