Brush Fire On 18 Mile Stretch Spreads To 100+ Acres
MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) - Miami-Dade firefighters are trying to get a handle on a smoky brush fire on the 18 mile stretch of U.S. 1.
The fire, at Mile Marker 126, started around 10:30 a.m. Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Alex Annunziato said a man was working on his car when a spark ignited the nearby brush. The flames quickly spread in the tinder dry brush from four to more than 20 acres by noon.
By 4:30 p.m. it had spread to about 130 acres and was only about 50-percent contained.
Three Miami-Dade fire crews are on the scene putting out the fire as well as dampening the surrounding area to keep it from spreading any farther.
