Fire & Rip Current Dangers Across S. Florida
MIAMI (CBS4) - The breezy conditions that have made the weather so nice around South Florida the last few days is also causing dangerous conditions both in the water and on land.
The winds are expected to gust to upwards of 35 miles per hour Friday. The easterly flow will bring dangerous rip currents across the Atlantic coastline throughout South Florida. The seas will be around 8-10 feet through the Gulf stream until Saturday morning.
A small craft advisory is in effect until Saturday morning and according to the National Weather Service, conditions will be close to requiring a high-surf advisory in and around Palm Beach County through Friday evening.
And if the rip currents and dangerous seas aren't bad enough, the fire conditions will continue to be getting close to critical thresholds. The dangerous conditions are helping to power a fire near 8th Street in Miami, but luckily with the easterly wind, no homes are in danger.
A red flag warning, signifying an enhanced fire danger, isn't in effect for most of South Florida. However, if the relative humidity continues to drop, then the NWS may have to put parts of the area under a Red Flag Warning.
