Fire Rescue Response Time Questioned In Club Liv Death
MIAMI (CBS4) - There are questions about how much time it took the Miami Beach Fire Department to respond to a medical emergency, which ultimately ended with the death of a club patron.
Police say 31-year-old Alberto Gomez was with his friends at Club Liv at the Fountainebleau Hotel Thursday night when he collapsed.
His friends told police they drank six shots of Tequila earlier in the evening at the Miami Heat game, and later snorted lines of cocaine at the hotel's restaurant.
Hotel security and an off-duty firefighter performed CPR on the man and used defibrillators to try to save his life, but it took the Fire Department 15 minutes to get to the hotel, when it typically would take 4-6 minutes.
Fire officials say the delay could have been caused by a glitch in the system.
Police say Gomez died when he arrived at Mount Sinai Hospital.
