Fins WR Needs Could Lead To Bowe

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins have a quality starting quarterback on the bench, but are needy at wide receiver. The Kansas City Chiefs have a star receiver, but no quarterback worth starting on the roster.

It seems to be a perfect trade scenario, but nothing has come together just yet. The speculation surrounds Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, who was unable to come to terms with the Chiefs on a contract this season and is playing under a one-year franchise tag.

Bowe told Yahoo! Sports' Jason Cole that he wants out of Kansas City "very badly." Bowe's sentiments are understandable given just how bad the Chiefs are this season. Kansas City is arguably the worst team in the NFL this year and Bowe only has a few years of football in his prime to waste.

Bowe, 28, is in his sixth season out of LSU and is arguably the number one receiver the Dolphins haven't had since trading away Brandon Marshall in the offseason. The Dolphins have plenty of ammunition with extra draft picks acquired from the Marshall and Vontae Davis trades.

However, Cole stressed that the two sides aren't actively talking, "not yet, at least."

If Miami were to try to acquire Bowe, this week would be the best time as he would get two weeks to get acquainted with the Dolphins offense. However, Miami would either get a half-season rental of Bowe, or have to sign him to a large, long-term contract either when the trade was consummate or in the off-season.

The Dolphins though need to keep money in the bank to sign several major free agents of their own in the offseason. Left tackle Jake Long, tailback Reggie Bush, cornerback Sean Smith, defensive tackle Randy Starks and wide receiver Brian Hartline are all likely looking for raises in the offseason.

Bowe also has a history of being problematic for the Chiefs franchise. He was suspended for four games in 2009 for taking a banned weight-loss supplement, according to ESPN.com.
