Fins Stung Again, Flynn Signs With Seahawks
SEATTLE (CBSMiami) – One day after meeting with the Miami Dolphins, Matt Flynn of the Green Bay Packers signed with the Seattle Seahawks.
The former Green Bay Packers backup spent Thursday and Friday in Seattle where he was wined and dined by the Seahawks staff that includes members of the Green Bay Packers staff that selected Flynn in the seventh-round of the 2008 NFL Draft.
Flynn, 26, then met with Dolphins coach Joe Philbin on Saturday. Philbin is the only offensive coordinator Flynn's ever had in the NFL. As the team's new head coach, the Dolphins had hoped it would have given them leg up on landing him.
Flynn's Seahawks contract is for three years and $26 million with $10 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
On Sunday, Philbin met with San Francisco 49ers QB Alex Smith who arrived at the team's Davie training facilities early Sunday morning.
The number one pick in the 2005 NFL draft, Smith will reportedly meet with the Dolphins because talks with the 49ers have stalled, according to the Sun-Sentinel. The 49ers are reportedly on Peyton Manning's short list along with Denver and Tennessee.
Now a free agent, Smith started 66 games for San Francisco and led them to a NFC Championship last season.
If the Dolphins sign Smith, he'll be reunited with his former high school teammate, Reggie Bush.
On Monday, the Fins will reportedly meet with free agent quarterback David Garrard, according to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora.
Garrard spent nine years with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Miami wanted to sign Garrard in October after losing Chad Henne for the season to a shoulder injury. Garrard declined, the speculation at the being that he "didn't feel like playing." Turns out he needed surgery on a herniated disc, according to CBS Sports.
