Fins Sign TE Dustin Keller
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins had a vacancy at tight end after Anthony Fasano left in free agency for the Kansas City Chiefs Tuesday. Miami appears to have wasted no time filling that position as the team has signed tight end Dustin Keller to a one-year contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
ESPN's John Clayton reported the contract is one-year, for $4.25 million.
While not the blocker Fasano was, Keller is arguably a much-better receiving threat than Fasano was in 2012.
Keller only started five games and played in a total of eight games in 2012 due to injuries. Still, for his career he has 241 catches for 2,876 yards and 17 touchdowns. Keller would become an excellent compliment for the Dolphins new passing corps featuring Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline.
The move by the Dolphins simultaneously gives the Dolphins an improved receiver and also further weakens the division rival New York Jets. The Jets have entered salary cap purgatory and have lost most of the few playmakers it had in 2012 to free agency.
Miami will now have a receiving corps that includes Mike Wallace, Davone Bess, Brian Hartline and now Keller at tight end.
The move also brings the Dolpins' salary cap space down to approximately $16 million in 2013.
