Fins Sign Cancer Survivor Kevin Curtis
DAVIE (CBS4) - The Miami Dolphins needed a speedy, veteran receiver to bolster their struggling wide receiver corps since Brian Hartline was lost for the season.
Monday night, the Fins signed veteran wide receiver Kevin Curtis to a one-year contract, according to Fox Sports. Curtis is just a few months removed from treatment for testicular cancer, but has been cancer-free since the September treatments.
In 2007, Curtis signed a multi-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles for $32 million. However, after starting strong, his play diminished due to injuries and he was eventually cut on March 18 so the Eagles wouldn't have to pay a $1 million bonus.
Curtis has worked out for several teams in the past few weeks, but the Fins saw enough to fill the gaping hole in the wide receiver corps.
The Dolphins need the help, because if they lose a game through the end of the season, they're out of the playoffs. Even if they win out, it could be too little, too late, because rarely does a division get three teams into the playoffs.
