Fins Practice For First Time
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – After months of waiting, the Miami Dolphins are set to finally strap on the pads and hit the practice field Friday morning.
The Dolphins first practice will have Chad Henne under center, but that could change at any time. The Fins are in a poker game with the Denver Broncos over quarterback Kyle Orton.
The Broncos want a higher round draft pick than the Dolphins want to give, and the Dolphins have to rework his contract before a trade could happen. As of now, Orton is playing hardball with the Broncos by not agreeing to a trade unless he can get a long-term contract from the Fins.
Orton could be an upgrade over Henne, but that upgrade could only be in the eye of the beholder based on stats.
But, for the players at Dolphins camp Friday morning, it's game on.
One player you won't see on the field this morning is new running back Reggie Bush. The scatback will have to wait a few days until the new league year starts to take the field. He's expected to be a pass-catching, speed running back that will be used primarily on third down.
The Dolphins are set at most positions as they open camp. At running back, the Fins have Daniel Thomas, Reggie Bush, and Lex Hilliard. The Fins have wide receivers Brandon Marshall, Brian Hartline, Davone Bess, and several others to help the team.
The defense should be the strong-point of the team once again. The defensive line has talent and depth and the starting linebacking corps is one of the best in the league. The only position battle on the defense could be at free safety between Chris Clemons and Reshad Jones.
