Fins On 4 Rookie Of The Week: Jarvis Landry
DAVIE (CBSMiami) -- The Miami Dolphins selected wide receiver Jarvis Landry in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft with thoughts that he could be a mainstay in their offense for the next several years.
Landry could be the right tonic for a Dolphins team looking for more playmakers. Even the Fins owner is counting on it.
"Jarvis Landry is somebody I think that everybody is really excited about," said Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. "Speaking to the coaches, I think he's really going to be somebody that's going to surprise a lot of people and really bring some excitement to this team."
Landry caught the Dolphins eye when he played at LSU, with a combination of reliability and fearlessness that make him a tantalizing pro prospect.
"He plays the game kind of fluidly," Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said. "There's not a lot of hesitation, he's very decisive on the field and goes after the football."
Already in camp, Landry has impressed some of his veteran teammates who say the receiver does not seem like a rookie.
"He's smart, he does a good job catching the football," noted Dolphins receiver Brian Hartline. "On the mental platform he operates like a second or third year player so he's definitely a smart guy."
Landry's also wise enough to see he could have an immediate impact. It may take a little while for everything to click, but Landry is confident it will.
"It's about embracing the opportunity," said Landry. "And the chance that we have to play each game and try to bring a championship back here to Miami."
The rookie has been impressing his coaches and teammates so far during training camp. Early indications are that he will be a difference maker on the Dolphins offense for years to come.
