Fins Desperate For Quarterback Help
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Oh how the mighty have fallen. That old phrase best describes the current state of the Miami Dolphins quarterback situation.
Going into the 2011 season, the Dolphins tried to trade for Denver starting quarterback Kyle Orton. In retrospect, that may be the high point in the Dolphins quarterback battle this season.
In the last 24-48 hours, the Dolphins have been rejected by free agent quarterbacks David Garrard and Jake Delhomme have turned down the Dolphins attempts to sign them.
The need at quarterback comes from the growing fear that Fins starting quarterback Chad Henne may be out for the season.
It set the stage for the needy Dolphins to start trying to find anybody who could take a snap from center.
But, Delhomme has been flat-out awful in his last two stops in the league and Garrard was cut by the perennially awful Jaguars.
Now, the Dolphins have been turned down by both players and the Fins are running out of options.
Garrard asked for the Dolphins to guarantee at least part of his contract so he didn't feel like just a stopgap measure. The Dolphins declined to do so and Garrard walked away, at least for now.
The Dolphins need a quarterback on the roster yesterday. With Henne out an undetermined amount of time, it leaves only Matt Moore on the active roster as a quarterback.
Rookie Pat Devlin has been relegated to the practice squad and stayed there during Tuesday's practice.
It's quite a plummet for a franchise that has two of most legendary quarterbacks in NFL history in its past.
But, with a coach and general manager on the hot seat, players may be hesitant to come in and play for the remainder of the season and face getting cut again heading into 2012.
