Fins Cut Jason Allen; Sign CB Al Harris

The Miami Dolphins have finally ended the Jason Allen experiment Wednesday after several seasons of disappointing play.

The Fins didn't waste time filling his roster spot, the team also announced it had signed former Packer Al Harris to play cornerback.

Allen, who was a first-round draft pick out of Tennessee, never developed into a quality NFL player for the Dolphins. He was selected by hated former Dolphins coach Nick Saban in 2006.

With Allen getting cut, no draft pick selected in the 2006 draft, or the first three rounds of the 2007 draft remain with the Fins.

Nose tackle Paul Soliai, a fourth round pick, and punter Brandon Fields, a seventh round pick, are the only players from the 2006-2007 drafts that see starting time with the team.

Harris is a 13-year veteran and is only a stop-gap solution at best. He couldn't get healthy for the Packers who released him this season.

He's a two-time Pro Bowler who has 21 career interceptions and 142 passes defended. He's also a native of Pompano Beach.

Harris could line up as a nickel corner, or if healthy and fast enough, push second-year cornerback Sean Smith for starting time.

Even at his age, if healthy, Harris could likely prevent many of the big plays Allen was always vulnerable to giving up.
