Fins' Brandon Marshall Detained By BSO Over Cab Fare
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - In what his lawyers are calling a big misunderstanding, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall was briefly detained for questioning by the Broward Sheriff's Office over his alleged refusal to pay a $142 cab fare.
The incident, first reported by the South Florida Times, occurred early Nov. 14, barely 12 hours after a Dolphins' home victory over Washington. When a taxi driver summoned deputies shortly before 7 a.m., Marshall was handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car while deputies questioned those involved.
Marshall said he had wanted to go home, but his driver had a thick accent and they had difficulty understanding each other, according to deputies.
Marshall eventually paid the fare and was released without being charged.
This latest incident ends a tumultuous year for the football player.
In April, Marshall was hospitalized and his wife Michi was arrested, accused of stabbing him in their Southwest Ranches home.
The Broward State Attorney's Office declined to pursue criminal charges against Michi citing conflicting stories from the couple.
In July, Marshall announced he suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder.
