FHP Enforces Its Campaign Against Aggressive Driving
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – You may want to take a deep breath and think twice before cutting off the car in front of you starting Friday.
Beginning Friday and running through Wednesday, the Florida Highway Patrol will be targeting aggressive driving behavior including tailgating, cutting and speeding as part of its second phase of the Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks Campaign.
The campaign is a collaborative effort between the FHP and the Florida Trucking Association.
"The campaign aims to reduce commercial motor vehicle-related crashes, injuries and fatalities by combining outreach and education with targeted enforcement activities to raise awareness among car and truck drivers about safe driving behaviors," said FHP Director Colonel David Brierton. "We are pleased to partner with the Florida Trucking Association on this safety campaign."
The campaign will use billboard and radio messaging with slogans like "big trucks equal big blind spots" to increase awareness among car and truck drivers of safe driving methods around one another. The messages will also serve as constant reminders of the increased risk of receiving a ticket for aggressive driving.
The FHP and the Florida Trucking Association will also conduct activities at schools and community centers around the state to educate drivers on how to share the road safely with trucks.
"Safety on Florida's roadways is a cooperative effort by cars and trucks alike. As an industry, safety is at the top of our minds-it matters above all else," said Mary Lou Rajchel Rajchel, the president and CEO of the FTA.
