FGCU Head Coach Heads To USC
FORT MYERS (CBSMiami) – He built Dunk City and a reputation for playing above the rim with reckless abandon. Now, Florida Gulf Coast head coach Andy Enfield is heading west to become the new head coach at the University of Southern California.
Enfield became a sensation after leading the upstart FGCU Eagles to the Sweet 16 in this year's NCAA Tournament. Enfield's team became the first 15 seed to ever make it to the Sweet 16 in NCAA history.
Enfield's style of running, gunning, and dunking gave FGCU and the city of Fort Myers the nickname Dunk City, USA. For Enfield it will be a major step up in competition as he goes from coaching in the Atlantic Sun to coaching in the Pac-12.
He will also have a new rival across town in Steve Alford and the UCLA Bruins. UCLA hired Alford unexpectedly last weekend and now both coaches will look to build their program at two storied institutions.
