Feds To Monitor Florida Elections
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The U.S. Department of Justice said Monday that it will be monitoring Tuesday's primary elections in Florida and Wisconsin.
The Justice Department typically has observers monitor elections, specifically looking at any possible discriminatory voting practices, harassment, and intimidation at the polls.
According to the Justice Department, monitors will be in place in the following counties in Florida during Tuesday's primaries: Collier, Hendry, Lee, Osceola, and Polk.
Additionally, Justice Department monitors will be in Milwaukee for the Wisconsin primary.
The Justice Department and the state of Florida are still involved in litigation surrounding the state's plan to purge voter rolls of voters deemed to be non-citizens. The purges have been halted by county election officials until more accurate data can be given to identify potential non-citizens.
