Feds To Allow Plan B Contraceptive With No Restrictions
WASHINGTON (CBSMiami) – The Obama Administration will drop its objections to a court order and allow girls of any age to purchase emergency contraception without a prescription.
The Justice Department said the Food and Drug Administration told the maker of pills like "Plan B One-Step" to submit a new application with labeling that would allow the drug to be sold over the counter and without any age or point of sale prescriptions.
The FDA said once it received the new applications it would quickly approve them.
Still, according to CNN, the FDA will not allow girls of any age to purchase the two-pill version of Plan B because the government agency believes there's less safety data available on the use of the two-pill version by younger women.
