Feds Announce New Hiring Initiative
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The White House, along with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, introduced a new program Thursday that they claim will help low-income people and public housing residents.
HUD announced that it will start a Section 3 Business Registry in Miami that HUD claims will expand job opportunities for those people.
Section 3 of the 1968 Housing and Urban Development Act was designed to promote employment, training, and contracting opportunities to low-income residents.
The measure is said to promote "self-sufficiency for low-income person, fosters the creation of small businesses, and helps build strong local communities."
So, HUD believes the new registry will concentrate the job resources by listing the available jobs. But, the bigger issue for businesses is that the new program will allow businesses to pull more money from HUD by hiring more low-income and public housing residents.
