FCAT Retake Scores Remain Poor
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – While first-time writing scores on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test improved in 2011, the scores for students retaking the FCAT were still dismal.
Less than a third of those retaking the FCAT as seniors passed the exam. Breaking the numbers down further, just 15 percent of those retaking the test passed reading and 21 percent passed a retake in the math section.
Students have to pass both exams to receive a high school diploma.
Students in 11th grade who retook the exam fared a little better than their senior counterparts. Twenty-two percent of juniors retaking the reading exam passed while 29 percent passed the math section.
Scores for students taking the test for a first time will be released later this year.
