FBI: Man With Fla. Ties Wanted For Bank Heists In Northeast
MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSMiami/AP) — There's an FBI alert for a bank robbery suspect from the Northeast who has ties to South Florida.
The FBI says Luis Alomar is wanted for at least 20 robberies along the eastern seaboard in places including New York, New Jersey and Delaware.
According to the FBI, he has been known to walk into a bank or commercial site and demand money from the register drawers. In most cases, a note was handed to the teller indicating he was carrying a weapon; in some cases, a weapon was displayed. Alomar is alleged to have made verbal threats to bank tellers, telling them he would shoot them if they said anything. He normally demands large bills.
Alomar, who speaks Spanish, has ties to the Mastic and Shirley areas of Long Island. He also is believed to have ties to southern Florida, specifically Palm Beach County, Kissimmee, and Osceola County.
There is a federal arrest warrant for him for a holdup in Delaware.
The FBI says the 37-year-old man should be considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information is asked to call the New York FBI at 212-384-1000. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
