FBI Looking For Weston Bank Robber Caught On Camera
WESTON (CBS4)- Authorities are investigating after an armed man robbed a bank in Weston, leaving with a significant bag of cash.
The FBI released photographs from a bank robbery that took place Friday at approximately 8 a.m. at the SunTrust Bank, 2575 Glades Circle in Weston.
The robber entered the bank, wearing a mask covering his face, dark green jumpsuit and brown boots, and pointed a handgun at bank employees before demanding money, authorities said.
The man forced employees to open the bank vault.
The robber bagged tens of thousands of dollars in cold cash and calmly walked out of the bank. One of the photographs show the man leaving the bank with a clear plastic bag filled with money. The amount stolen was not released.
Residents in the area said they were shocked.
"I think it's terrible because we thought we were in a safe community," said a resident. "Nothing happens in Weston… Nothing bad happens in Weston."
"Unbelievable, this is a quiet area," commented Pedro Mendoza.
Mendoza frequently goes to the bank and says he knows the workers.
"It must have been very scary for them," he said.
CBS4's Joan Murray reported that the robbery at the Weston location was similar to the bank robbery that occurred on September 21 on Alton Road in Miami Beach. Although the man is dressed differently he does have a similar mode of operation.
The man in the Miami Beach robbery disguised himself, went into the bank, headed to the vault and left with a significant amount of cash in a bag. But the FBI did not say whether the two are connected.
No customers were in the bank at the time of the robbery and no one was injured.
Anyone with information as to the identity of this bank robber is urged to call the FBI at (305) 944-9101 or Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
