MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The FBI warned officers in the South Florida area to be on high alert Friday over a 'credible threat.'
Miami's division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issued a statement saying:
"We are aware of a credible threat towards law enforcement in the South Florida area. As a result, the Southeast Florida Fusion Center issued an officer safety bulletin about the threat this morning. Given this matter is an ongoing investigation, no further information is available."
Following the warning, Miami -Dade Police tweeted a message to the general public on the matter saying. "The Southeast Florida Fusion Center has related that there are no credible threats to the public at this time."
Miami Police also took to social media saying, "Southeast Fla. Fusion Center reports NO credible threats to public. Reports of threat were directed at Police only."
The warning comes about a week after an ambush on officers in downtown Dallas. Five of the officers were killed while standing guard as hundreds of people protested the police killings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota that happened earlier in the week.
