FAU & UM Set To Battle On Gridiron
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – If you build it, they will come. That could very well be the case for Florida Atlantic University's football team.
The school built a brand new stadium last year thanks to the long-time head coach Howard Schnellenberger's influence. So, it's only fitting that the school's first big opponent in the stadium will be a former Schnellenberger school.
FAU and the University of Miami Hurricanes will play a three game series starting next season. FAU will visit Sun Life Stadium on August 31, 2013 and in 2016. The Canes will then return the favor by playing at FAU's home stadium in 2015.
The three-game series will be the first matchup between the schools.
FAU was the worst team in college football last year and hired Carl Pellini to help rebuild the school's program. UM is in the Golden Age right now with Al Golden at the helm. The Canes struggled in year one of Golden's tenure, but he's since rid himself of much of the past that brought the program down.
Golden built a winner at Temple and his first full recruiting class was one of the best in the nation. His reclamation project will likely be much easier than what Pellini faces in Boca Raton.
