Father & Son Arrested For Trying To Smuggle Drugs Into Jail
KEY WEST (CBSMiami) – Some people like to keep it all in the family, and that was the case for a duo arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into the Monroe County Detention Center.
Monroe County Sheriff's deputies arrested current inmate Jack Cantres, 20, and his father, Harrold Cantres, 36, on charges of conspiring to introduce drugs into the jail.
Detectives said the elder Cantres would hide marijuana in a trash can at the Miami Subs restaurant on North Roosevelt Boulevard and then his son would arrange for someone to pick up the drugs and deliver them to the jail.
Sheriff's deputies said they conducted surveillance on the day the drugs were to be dropped off and found marijuana hidden inside. Harrold Cantres, according to the MCSO, admitted to knowing the drugs were going to be delivered to his son and said he was "doing a favor for his son."
Deputies seized with $1,178 in small bills from Harrold Cantres and charged him with with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a public housing facility and with conspiring to smuggle contraband into a detention facility. Jack Cantres was charged with conspiring to smuggle contraband into a detention facility.
Father and son are now in the Monroe County Detention Center.
