Father Helps Deliver Baby In Car Along I-95
NORTH MIAMI DADE (CBSMiami) -- A unique kind of call had Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews busy early Tuesday morning when they helped deliver a baby born in a car along I-95 in North Miami Dade.
According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, a pregnant woman and her husband were driving in the area of I-95 and Miami Gardens Drive when the woman went into labor around 3:30 a.m.
They pulled off to the side of the road just south of the Golden Glades Interchange.
"I got delivery from my wife, my baby," said the proud father named Anton who is from Russia. "It's a first time experience," he said proudly with a smile.
Firefighters from Engine 32 arrived just in time to help deliver the baby without any complications.
It was a nice change of pace for fire rescue personnel on the scene.
"The fact that we, a lot times, work tragedies it's a good feeling that this time we assisted in bringing a new life into the world and it's a good feeling," said Miami-Dade firefighter Wayne Sparks.
"Since the baby had already been delivered, all we had to do was cut the umbilical cord, check out the mother and as I said, mother and baby are doing fine," said Sparks.
Mother and baby were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital following the delivery.
By the way, it was a girl.
