Father Charged With Baby's Death
MIAMI - (CBS4) - A 36-year-old father is accused of killing his 7-week-old son and faces a second-degree murder charge and aggravated child abuse. On Thursday, a Miami-Dade circuit judge denied him bond.
Police say Mario Perez called 911 on January 10th to report that his child was not breathing, but once doctors checked out the child they found bruising and bleeding seeping from the baby's brain, according to the police report. The child had been kept alive on life support until Saturday when he died.
Perez first told authorities he was home alone and that he had tossed the baby – identified as John Brian Perez – on the bed.
Perez was arrested Wednesday and added that he could not recall how much force he had used to throw "the victim on the bed," the police report states.
``He then admitted shaking the victim three times so hard he thought he broke the victim's neck," according to the report.
Perez lived with his son at 11040 Peach Tree Drive near Biscayne Park.
