Homeland Security Fatal Shooting Under Investigation In Coral Gables
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A spokesperson for Homeland Security said agents were forced to open fire Friday afternoon at a suspect who brandished a weapon at them in Coral Gables.
Homeland Security said they had been involved in a grand-scale financial investigation when the shooting happened in the area of Siena Avenue and Alhambra Circle.
Authorities said HSI agents were treated at local area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.
Images from Chopper4 showed a silver van with doors open and what appeared to be a yellow tarp covering a body inside the vehicle.
"I was as scared as I can be, this is genuinely one of the most horrifying things that have happened in my life," said resident Stefan Genovese.
"This is not the area that things like this happen so I was worried, I was scared," echoed Hilda Ayo who also lives in the area.
But Coral Gables Police Assistant Chief, Hajir Nuriddin says residents can now rest easy.
"I want to let everyone know that none of our residents were involved in this incident nor were they the target of this investigation. And, we're happy to report that all residents of Coral Gables are safe."
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be investigating the shooting.
