Fashion Guru Hal Rubenstein Discusses New Book "100 Unforgettable Dresses"
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Hal Rubenstein is a leading authority on red carpet glamour. The day after the big award shows, he doesn't bite his tongue regarding fashion, always telling it like it is. As fashion director at InStyle Magazine, it's safe to say Rubenstein knows a thing or two about dresses.
Rubenstein's new book "100 Unforgettable Dresses" is filled with stories, secrets and insight from behind the most famous and infamous dresses of the past.
"The right dress on the right woman at the right time creates this memorable moment that influences how we see beauty, how we see femininity," said Hal.
Recently Rubenstein, who own s a place on South Beach, came to Neiman Marcus in Bal Harbour Shops to chat with fans about his book and about fashion while checking out the latest looks for fall. And when it comes to dressing in the Magic City, Hal knows Miami is in a category of its own.
"Miami is all about how little can I wear and get away with it and look hot. It's also about great looking people with great bodies who stay in shape and being outdoors," said Rubenstein.
The book focuses on those very memorable and iconic moments in fashion, such as Jennifer Lopez in the aqua and green Versace plunging gown.
"It's the most famous red carpet dress of all time. It's actually really a jumpsuit it's all attached to a bikini but the plunging neckline, that's sort-of the wowza moment that all dresses are measured against," said Hal.
Then there is Cher in everything that she wears.
"You know Cher really didn't do clothes," said Hal. "Bob Mackie would say those are terrible clothes. Those are great costumes but it was that whole sense of theater that a woman should always look and feel special," said Hal.
Feeling special, Hal believes, is how every woman should feel when she leaves the house.
"You can either walk into a room or you can make an entrance into a room, which one do you think I prefer?" said Hal.
Hal Rubenstein's book, "100 Unforgettable Dresses" is available for purchase at bookstores. Also, you can see Hal's new, affordable line of clothes for women on the Home Shopping Network, HSN.com.
