Fashion Fiends Rejoice At Fashion's Night Out
MIAMI (CBS4) – Fashion is coming back to South Florida in a big away. Thursday evening, Fashion's Night Out kicked off with a series of runway shows, after-hours shopping and plenty of cocktail receptions.
The shopping initiative driven by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour returned for its fourth year.
Fashion's Night Out started in 2009 in New York as a way to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence and boost the industry's economy during the recession. Now the event extends to 250 U.S. cities and 18 countries.
"Last year there were 4500 events in the U.S. surrounding FNO this year there is supposed to be well over 5000," said Deborah Slack VP and General Manager of Saks Fifth Avenue.
"It's fashion's night! It 's all over the country and Miami is a great place for fashion," said fashionista Marcy Lefton.
Several cities across Florida will participate in this international shopping party, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville. More than 65 retailers in the Miami area are taking advantage of the event.
Dadeland Mall is inviting all Miami fashionistas to grab a goodie bag and take it floor by floor at Saks, with makeovers at the beauty bar and cupcakes on one, and an Alexander McQueen shoe trunk show on two. At Saks, 10 percent of sales benefits Women's Fund of Miami-Dade and Dress for Success Miami.
In Miami's Design District, shop boutiques in the up-and-coming fashion hub, including Maison Martin Margiela, Scotch & Soda, and Marni, while DJ Mike Sikes spins and dance duo Afrobeta moves at Oak Plaza Plummer Alley and 39th Street.
Village of Merrick Park shoppers will find makeup applications at Nordstrom, manis from Nailbar & Beauty Lounge, braids from Blo at Neiman Marcus, mini facials at Banana Republic, and a Tom Ford trunk show at Edward Beiner.
At the Bal Harbour Shops, Saks will transform into an after-hours party with a photo booth that posts to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram; drinks from The Broken Shaker, New Amsterdam, and Stella Artois; and burgers and frozen custard from Shake Shack.
At Aventura Mall, Macy's kicks the night off with a fashion show that includes model Niki Taylor; Empire Girls's Julissa Bermudez; and Luciana Scarabello, the local designer from Fashion Star. Get styling advice and giveaways from Miami fashion bloggers and samples and prizes from restaurants such as Morton's Steak House and Il Mulino. The rest of the mall features 50 in-store sales events, including the Michael Kors lounge.
