Sun Life Packed For Football From Afar
MIAMI (CBSMiami) — More than 53,000 tickets were sold for the soccer match of the century: AC Milan versus Chelsea.
People from all over the world converged on Sun Life Stadium to watch A-C Milan beat the reigning champions Chelsea by a score of one to zero.
This game marks the first time Chelsea have ever been to South Florida. AC Milan hasn't been here in over 15 years, when they played the Colombian National Team.
Chelsea is the team to beat: it won the UEFA Champions League title in May and boasts standouts like Spanish forward Fernando Torres and English national team stars John Terry and Frank Lampard.
"Since it's Chelsea, they're one of the most known teams in the world and what makes it exciting is that you never know what's gonna happen," said one fan.
Fans flew in from Ecuador, China and across Florida to see the rare gem of a game. But airfare wasn't the only expense fans were willing to shell out. Some splurged on 80 dollar jerseys and Bubba Malak had to sit front row at the match. He paid the price too.
"Three hundred, well worth every penny too," said Malak. "because only once in a lifetime do you get to see these fantastic players come to your hometown."
