FAMU President Places Tough Restrictions On Marching Band
TALLAHASSE (CBSMiami) - In an effort to crack down on hazing traditions, Florida A&M University is placing strict regulations on members of their marching band.
On Monday, FAMU President James Ammons said he wants band members to be full time students, placing meticulous academic requirements and restricted participation on the band for four years.
After the death of drum major Robert Champion, Ammons suspended the band for a year.
Champion was allegedly killed on a bus last November by fellow band members during a hazing ritual.
Later this week, University trustees plan to meet to discuss anti-hazing efforts as FAMU tries to rid the hazing culture that engulfs the band.
