Family Seeks Help In Solving Plantation Murder
PLANTATION (CBS4) - The family of a man gunned down outside a crowded nightclub is making an appeal to the public: Please come forward with information to solve the murder of Maxon Lauriston.
Surveillance video from outside the Plantation Inn from the early morning of August 26 shows a man in a green shirt, shorts and hat walking behind Lauriston and opening fire on him. Numerous other people are seen walking around the pair when the shooting occurs. One other person was injured in the shooting.
The surveillance video shows Lauriston trying to run away. However, the gunman chases him, squeezing off more rounds. Eventually, Lauriston reached the club entrance where he collapsed.
Lauriston's family said watching the video is painful.
"Every day I'm watching that video and it hurts me to see how someone could be so inhumane to chase somebody down and keep shooting just to make sure he's dead," said Livenson Loriston, Lauriston's cousin.
Family and friends of the victim gathered Monday morning in Delray Beach to mourn, share stories and plead with anyone who knows the shooter's identity to inform police.
"We won't stop until justice is served," Loriston said. "To lose that man -- a good man - over something senseless, it hurts. It hurts."
Plantation Police believe jealousy was the motive for the murder. According to police, Lauriston spoke to the shooter's girlfriend inside the club, which led to an altercation. The video shows the shooter leaving the club. Police believe he grabbed a gun and waited for Lauriston to leave.
"This happened over something that wasn't even that big," said Perlo Bastien, another cousin. "It's still ridiculous. It's not someone that he knew. It still baffles us."
Lauriston's family hopes someone recognizes the shooter. Police also want to speak with 5 persons of interest -- three women and two men who were with the shooter at the club.
Adding to the family's pain, Lauriston was raising his 5 year old daughter. The girl's mother died of natural causes last year.
The family says Lauriston doted on his little girl and should be alive today to be part of her life.
"How we gonna tell this little girl -- which we haven't done yet -- how we gonna tell this little girl that her father is dead?" Loriston said.
