Family, Police Seek Hit & Run Driver Who Killed Elderly Man
DORAL (CBS4) – There was an emotional plea for help Tuesday from the family of an elderly South Florida man who was struck and killed by a hit and run driver.
On Friday, September 9th, Demetrio Corona, 94, was walking across SW 104th Street near SW 156th Avenue near his home in the Hammocks in West Kendall when he was struck and killed by an unknown vehicle around 12:30 a.m.
The vehicle took off westbound on SW 104th Street.
The family is pleading with the community for any information about the case.
"My father is a 94-year-old man," explained his son Lorenzo Corona who paused to regain his composure. "He was a loving father to me and all my brothers."
The night he was killed, police say he had gotten into a family argument and was walking to his son's house a few blocks away. While he did take a variety of medications, family members describe him as a vibrant man.
"He didn't use a walker, he was not an old fart, he didn't have dementia, he would go for walks and not get lost," said daughter-in-law Eileen Corona.
Traffic homicide investigators say they have virtually nothing to go on. They need the public's help in finding the hit and run and killer.
"We're looking for a vehicle that frequents the area of the Hammocks community and would have right front hood and possibly windshield damage," said Miami-Dade Det. Gerald Bertrand.
"It's a heartless person to do this to another human being and leave them in the street like a dog to die. It's totally incomprehensible to me," said Lorenzo Corona.
Police believe it was probably a small car that hit Corona and the driver was probably on their way home, most likely, in the neighborhood.
