'My Son's Blood Is On Your Life': Family Makes Plea To Find Driver In Fatal Hit-And Run Crash In Pompano Beach
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- A South Florida family, mourning the loss of a loved one who was killed by a hit and run driver, is making a plea to the public to help police find the driver.
Family members of Alexander Plummer spoke to reporters on Tuesday morning, regarding his death.
BSO investigators say he was hit and killed on January 6, shortly after 10 p.m. near the 2500 block of West Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach.
Alexander Plummer should be 30 years old now. But he's forever 29, hit and killed while crossing the street just days before his birthday.
"In that 29 years, this young man has been so loyal to his family and friends. So devoted to being home with his mom. Never really got into any trouble at all," said Alexander's mother, Marcia Plummer.
Investigators discovered Plummer, who not in a designated crosswalk, was hit by a car traveling eastbound on West Atlantic Boulevard. The driver of that car, stopped for a short time and then left the area.
"It's incredulous that someone can hit someone on the street, stop for a moment and just drive away. What has happened to our love?" asked family pastor, Bishop Oral Walters of Living Word Christian Center in Coral Springs.
A second driver also hit Plummer, but remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
Relatives describe Plummer as sweet, humble and helpful. They said he was a gentle giant with a love of cheeseburgers, hence his nickname, "Big Cheez".
"Big Cheese, Little Cheese, Mama Cheese," explained Plummer's sister, Natasha, of their strong bond.
Now the Plummer family is begging for answers.
"I am pleading to the community to really take the time, like this is your own child, your own brother or your own sister. Do not sit down on information like this. Our young people are being taken off this earth day after day. The person that hit him and left, I know you might be scared or frightened, but think about what justice you can do for the next person," Marcia Plummer said. "Remember that my son's blood is on your life. You don't want that."
The vehicle investigators are looking for is a Gold, 4-door, older model American vehicle with substantial frontend damage including the windshield being smashed.
