Family Of Man Beaten To Death Pleads For Public's Help In Finding Killer
MIAMI (CBS4) - A wife, brother, and sister struggled through their grief at a Tuesday afternoon news conference, pleading for help in finding the killer of a hard-working career carpenter.
Max Lopez, 55, was found beaten to death in an alley near Flagler Street and 15th Ave. in Little Havana on December 8th.
"We used to go everywhere together," said Melania Lopez, the victim's widow, tears coursing down her cheeks. "We ask that, please, if anyone saw anything please call. This cannot stand like this. This was a precious human life.
Homicide detectives have no motive, no suspects in the alleyway murder, but they got a call to Crime Stoppers from a tipster they desperately need to hear from again.
Miami Police Ofc. Kenia Reyes told reporters that investigators believe the caller to the hotline actually watched the murder unfold. They believe that he can provide a detailed description of the killer.
"We need that person to call us again," Reyes said. "We cannot over emphasize that they can remain completely anonymous."
The victim's brother, José Lopez, said Max Lopez worked hard all his life and lived life to the fullest.
"We used to joke and have good times. We were very close. It's not just to take an innocent life. I'm begging the community to help," the brother said, wiping away tears.
Lopez's family said he had no enemies and no nefarious friends. Investigators are at a loss to explain his terrible end.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
