Family Of Graffiti Artist Killed By Stun Gun Still Wants Answers
MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) - It's been six months since Israel "Reefa" Hernandez died after he was caught spraying painting the wall of a fast-food restaurant with graffiti.
Miami Beach Police said Hernandez ignored their orders to stop and was eventually shocked by a Taser shot to the chest. Hernandez later died at the hospital.
Thursday, friends and family of Hernandez, 19, plan to hold a news conference at the office of Miami-Dade County State Attorney Katherine Fernandez-Rundle. They are asking for the officers involved in the incident disciplined and a change in the department's policies.
Hernandez's family has filed a lawsuit against the Miami Beach Police Department, claiming police violated his civil rights.
