Family Asks For Help After Blind Man Hurt In Hit & Run

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The family of a blind Miami man who was critically injured Monday evening in a hit and run accident has asked that anyone who has information about what happened to call the police.

Charlie Frank Kimball, 70, was walking along NW 7th Avenue around 9:15 p.m. when he was struck near NW 19th Street by a vehicle which sped off.

Kimball was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. His family says he is in a coma and in extremely critical condition.

Tuesday Kimball's daughter Nicola begged the driver to turn him or herself in.

"It would give us in the family a lot of peace and we can at least go to sleep at night knowing that this person came forward. It's just an accident just come forward so we can be able to put the pieces together," said Kimball.

"Please come forward please say something please let us know something because right now everyone is nervous everyone is shaking we don't know what to do what to think or how to even feel," said Kimball's stepdaughter Marcia Chisholm.

Kimball's daughters say although he is legally blind, their father cherished his independence and often went for walks.

Police have released a blurry surveillance camera image of the car they believe hit Kimball. It's described as a blue or purple 2005-2007 Ford Taurus.

Police are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the accident to give Crime Stoppers a call at (305) 471-TIPS.
