Families, Friends Grieve Loss Of Men Killed In MIA Bus Crash
MIAMI (CBS4) - Friends and family are mourning those killed when a tour bus crashed into an overhang at Miami International Airport.
Serafin Castillo died at the scene of the bus crash. Police say Francisco Urana died at the hospital. Friends say both belonged to a congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Sweetwater. They were headed to a convention in West Palm Beach.
Castillo's grandson says his grandfather was passionately devoted to his church, his family, and his many friends.
"Our congregation is praying for the families for the congregation members. It's a very, very sad day a great deal of our friends have been in the congregation for many years," said congregation member Daniel Ponce.
Ponce said the bus was one of three from the congregation headed to the convention in West Palm.
Other members arrived back in Sweetwater hours after learning of the crash.
"In the prayer we included we're so sorry for the loss of our brothers and it was something very sad," said Manuel Lacayo who added, "You could see everyone there, some of them were crying and some were very, very touched by the news and it was just something sad."
It's still not clear how the bus ended up at the airport and Serafin Castillo's grandson said his family doesn't know how his grandfather ended up on that bus. He said Castillo was originally planning to attend a Jehovah's Witness convention next week and many of his family members didn't realize he'd decided to go this week instead.
