Fallen Pompano Beach Firefighter Remembered

POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – A Pompano Beach firefighter may have died but his name will forever remain.

Friday, Fire Station 61 was dedicated to the 29-year-veteran firefighter and EMT William "Bill" Elliott on Friday in remembrance of the department's first ever line-of-duty death.

Elliott's family and fellow firefighters attended the unveiling of the sign that dedicated the station to him.

Elliott died January 6 after falling from a 100-ft aerial fire truck at the station during a training exercise.

Shortly after his death, The Pompano Beach City Commission voted unanimously in favor of dedicating the station to Elliott, the first and only firefighter in the department's history to die on the job.

Before joining the Pompano Beach Fire Rescue 22 years ago, Elliott had worked with the Lighthouse Point Fire Department for seven years.

His brother John Elliott is also a firefighter and works for Boca Raton Fire Rescue.
