Falcons Falling Like Flies Ahead Of Fins Game
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Atlanta Falcons will visit Sun Life Stadium for the Miami Dolphins home opener this Sunday, but will be without two key defensive contributors.
Monday, the Falcons placed defensive end Kroy Biermann on injured reserve due to a torn right Achilles tendon. Biermann was arguably the Falcons' best pass rusher and losing him and his 16.5 career sacks will make life a little easier for Fins quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
Then on Tuesday, the Falcons announced linebacker Sean Weatherspoon was placed on the temporary injured reserve that will keep him from practicing for six weeks and from playing for eight weeks due to a foot injury.
Since being drafted out of the University of Missouri, Weatherspoon has become the leader of the Falcons defense. Last year he pulled down 95 total tackles, three sacks, and one interception. He had 10 total tackles in the first two games this season.
The Falcons offense meanwhile will be without starting running back Steven Jackson on Sunday against the Dolphins. Behind Jackson, the Falcons have Jacquizz Rodgers, Antone Smith, Jason Snelling, and Josh Vaughan, none of which instill much fear in defenses.
