Facebook: Are You Addicted?
MIAMI (CBS4) - There are new numbers that show just how addicted we have become to the social networking site Facebook. From friend requests, to status updates, to posting pictures, Facebook is a part of our lives. Although some people can resist the blue and white logo, others cannot stand not logging on to their computer.
"It's entertaining it gives you something to do," said one South Florida Facebook user.
The numbers show:
- 48% of people ages 18-34 check Facebook when they wake up.
- 28% of people check Facebook in bed on their smart phones
- 48% of young Americans get their news from Facebook
"Is that reasonable, to get your news from Facebook," asked CBS4's Jorge Estevez to one woman on Lincoln Road.
"Yes. That is how I found about the Zodiac thing," she said.
In fact: "Facebook" was the most searched word. It has 500,000,000 active users which means 1 out of 13 people on Earth have a Facebook account and 70 % of those users live outside the .U.S.
"All the random guys who want to add me who don't speak English, they are all out of the country," joked one woman.
But there are some people who can draw the line.
"I don't need to know that my friends are out in the yard," said one man.
And a fun fact, in the time it took to read this story, there were one million comments made on Facebook worldwide.
