Expect Street Closures During Ft. Lauderdale 5K Run
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - Thousands of runners will hit three streets of downtown Ft. Lauderdale Thursday evening for the this year's Ft. Lauderdale Mercedes Benz Corporate 5K Run.
But before the firing of the starter's gun, a number of roads will be temporarily closed to drivers along the course.
Wednesday night Las Olas Boulevard was closed to traffic between SE 1st Avenue and Andrews Avenue.
On Thursday Las Olas Blvd., from SE1st Avenue to SE 2nd Avenue, and SE 1st Avenue, from SE 2nd Street to Las Olas Boulevard, will be closed beginning at 1 p.m.
Runners are expected to begin arriving at the Huizenga Plaza, the hub of the event, around 4:30 p.m. The run begins at 6:45 p.m.
The first half mile of the course (north of the New River) will be filled with runners and walkers – no traffic will be able to move for about 20 minutes. No traffic will be allowed on SE 3rd Avenue north of Davie Boulevard through Las Olas Boulevard for the first 20 minutes of the race. South of Davie Boulevard, southbound traffic will not be permitted to SE 14th Street.
Drivers on northbound Andrews Avenue south of SE 17th Street will be directed to SW 4th Avenue or U.S.1. Traffic north of 17th Street will be directed to SW 4th Avenue at 15th Street.
Davie Boulevard between Andrews Avenue and SE 3rd Avenue will be closed to traffic.
Most roads, except for Las Olas Boulevard, will be re-opened by 9:30 p.m. Las Olas is expected to re-open to traffic around 11 p.m.
