Exclusive: Teen Car Burglars Caught In The Act
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Two South Florida teenagers were caught in act of breaking into dozens of cars in two Broward County cities.
There is surveillance video of the two teen crooks in action. The pair is accused of breaking into two dozen cars in Tamarac and Oakland Park.
Investigators said the video shows the pair in the Tamarac Lakes South retirement community on June 7th.
In the video, one of the teenagers can be seen putting a key around his neck while the other is in the background. Each of them had their face covered.
Their crime spree came to an end days later when they were caught with their hands full by a BSO deputy who noticed they were suspicious and confronted them.
"He noticed two young men standing near a car, he confronted them, as he got closer and started talking to them, he realized they were holding masks, gloves, and one had a cup holder from a vehicle that was filled with coins," said BSO spokeswoman Dani Moschella.
The 14 and 15-year-old boys are accused of taking a gun, several pieces of jewelry, phones, sunglasses and watches.
Detectives said the boys admitted to breaking into cars.
"They told detectives that's what they had been doing, they were the ones who had done it," said Moschella.
Both teens face multiple counts of car burglary among other charges.
