Fmr. Brownsville Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Students

BROWNSVILLE (CBSMiami) -- A former Brownsville physical education teacher is under arrest accused of sexual battery of two students.

Wendell Alfredo Nibbs, 51,  has been a teacher at Brownsville Middle School but resigned Thursday morning, sources told CBS4's Peter D'Oench.

CBS4 was there exclusively as he was arrested.

He's now facing charges of sexual battery against children between the ages of 12 and 17.

His arrest report paints a disturbing picture of a teacher preying on middle school students.

The report says he badgered some of them, made crude references to their bodies and had sex with two students.

Miami-Dade County State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle is concerned about the charges against Nibbs, a married father of two children.

He has been on administrative duties, away from children, since the allegations first surfaced in May 2016 that Nibbs made repeated sexual comments about the bodies of students and had sex with two of them.

The warrant details allegations from three students with the initials R.W., D.P. and D.J.

In one instance, "according to R.W., D.P. said that she and the defendant had sex during school hours while inside the defendant's classroom at Brownsville Middle School."

Nibbs reportedly exchanged nude photos with a student by texting and told another he wanted to see her private parts.

He also reportedly told another she should not wear a thong during P.E.

In another instance, "D.J....did not tell anyone about the defendant forcing her to engage in...sex with him because she was afraid."

She said Nibbs threatened her with bodily harm if she told schools officials.

Miami-Dade Schools spokesman John Schuster responded in a statement saying,

"Miami-Dade County Public schools will not tolerate actions by employees that endanger or violate the safety of children. Our highest priority is to protect their physical and emotional well-being.

The allegations against the employee are unconscionable and do not comport with standards of excellence and integrity of our workforce. He is no longer a Miami-Dade County Public Schools employee."

D'Oench reached out to the United Teachers of Dade which has not commented on the alleged incidents so far.

Nibbs records show a series of traffic infractions but not serious charges before the most recent ones brought against him.

He is expected in court on Friday and is being held without bond.

Nibbs has denied some of the allegations.
