Broward Middle School Principal Arrested On Drug, DUI Charges

DANIA BEACH (CBSMiami) – A middle school principal in Broward County is facing criminal charges and he's been removed from his school.
According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, Steven J. Williams, principal at Driftwood Middle School in Hollywood, was arrested in Dania Beach on Sunday morning.
Based on an arrest report, deputies responded to reports of a disturbance at 300 Gulfstream Road around 3 in the morning.
The report says deputies stopped Williams' car after the 911 caller yelled, "stop that car he's drunk and his friend attacked one of my guys."
Once out of the car, the report adds that Williams "pulled his left hand out of (his) pocket and an object fell from the pocket to the ground." The report says, "(the) object was identified as a clear plastic bag" and the substance inside it "tested positive for cocaine."
The arresting deputy wrote that Williams failed a field sobriety test.
"While speaking to (Williams) he slurred his words and the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath was more noticeable. I asked the defendant if he had been drinking and he stated 'yes sir but not a real lot, I was just helping my employee get her husband home,'" the report reads.
The Broward County School District confirmed that they had "received information" that Williams was arrested. School district officials told CBS4 News that Williams was removed from the school and reassigned to a position away from the school.
CBS4 News tried to reach Williams for comment but could not locate him.
