Exclusive: Beckham Gets Key To Miami-Dade County
WEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – International soccer star David Beckham was on the campus of Florida International University in West Miami-Dade Saturday afternoon for a tour of the school's football stadium.
Beckham is in talks over possibly becoming owner of an expansion team in major league soccer. Miami is believed to be one of the cities Beckham and his group are looking at as a possible location for an expansion team.
After the tour, he was given a key to Miami-Dade County from Mayor Carlos Gimenez and spoke exclusively to CBS4 News. He sounded very positive about soccer in South Florida.
"I think bringing an MLS team here to South Florida would be exciting," said Beckham. "I think Miami fans are very passionate about the sport and about winning and of course, it would have to be success but it's definitely exciting."
If Beckham does it bring an expansion team here, it would be Miami's second time in the league. The Miami Fusion were members of the MLS for four seasons from 1998 until 2001.
