Ex-Rothstein Law Partner Suspended Over Real Estate Deal
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami/AP) — An ex-partner of convicted Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein is unable to practice law thanks to a Florida Supreme Court ruling which suspended his law license over a New York real estate deal.
The court issued its 91-day suspension Thursday for Fort Lauderdale attorney Russell Adler. He was one of the name partners in the now-defunct Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler firm that imploded after Rothstein's $1.2 billion Ponzi scheme was uncovered.
The court found that Adler misrepresented his stake in the firm when purchasing a New York co-op apartment and did not disclose certain financing details to the co-op board.
Adler's suspension was not related to the Ponzi scheme, which involved investments in fake legal settlements. Adler has not been charged in the Ponzi case. Rothstein is serving a 50-year prison sentence for operating the scam.
